If you’re looking for good food, we highly recommend trying local cheese, wine and olive oil (Stancija Špin and Tar are good places to go), or visiting some of many restaurants (called ‘konoba’), where you can try all the local specialties.
If you’re into sports, know that Istria boasts dozens of kilometres of cycle paths. Hiking is another excellent idea, and you don’t have to go far. Climb up the nearby Mount Učka (peak Vojak, 1396m).
If you’re looking for adrenaline fun, visit the water parks Istralandia – Nova Vas (90 km) or Aquacolors – Poreč (70 km). Your kids will certainly enjoy a stroll among the dinosaurs at Dinopark Funtana. There is also horseback riding at Barba Tone’s Ranch in Manjadvorci (Barban), Adrenalinpark Glavani (Barban), Motodrom Poreč (for go-carting, paintball and an adrenaline park). Discover the caves of Feštinsko Kraljevstvo (Feštini-Žminj) and Baredine (Nova Vas).
If you prefer to simply relax on the beach and go swimming, one of the most beautiful wild beaches on the Adriatic Sea, Klančac (Brseč) is only 6 km away. You will also love the beaches of Mošćenička Draga (16 km) – Sipar and Sveti Ivan. Or why not hop over to the Island of Cres? Take a ferry from the nearby ferry port of Brestova (4 km). You don’t even have to take your car across.
Central Istria is best discovered by the historic train Parenzana, running from Vižinada to Motovun. The ride includes tastings of Istrian delicacies. For history and culture buffs, a visit to the Pula Amphitheatre from the 1st century is a must. Also, visit the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč from the 6th century, and the National Museum in Labin, where you can visit a mining shaft of an old local mine.
Croatia is a small country, but it boasts as many as 8 national parks. Two of them are located less than 100 km away from the Villa. You shouldn’t miss a visit to the National Park Brijuni, which comprises a group of small islands. Drive to the town of Fažana (80 km) and take a 15-minute boat ride to the islands. If you’re looking for refreshment from the sultry summer, drive to the National Park Risnjak (86 km) and enjoy its gorgeous forests.
For an evening stroll, a romantic dinner or an ice-cream treat, visit nearby historic seaside resort Opatija (26 km) or Rabac (25 km).
This is the perfect place for those of you looking to completely disconnect from civilization. The nearest grocery shops can be found in Plomin (5 km) and Brseč (6 km). If you prefer large supermarkets, in the nearby town of Labin (16 km) you will find all the leading supermarket chains available in Croatia.
